Gourd artist, Sue Brogdon returns to Tohono Chul with a wild and whimsical gourd workshop! This vessel features yards and yards of sea grass coiling and free form weaving. First, Sue will review various options for coloring the body of the gourd using dye ink, alcohol ink, and specialty products such as spray webbing. Then the fun starts – choosing the color and application technique for your piece! The next step is to seal the gourd. The rest of the day will be spent creating the flamboyant rim treatment. You will lash two rows of sea grass before learning how to do free-form weaving to create an asymmetrical design. Twisted wire, beads, and feathers will complete your whimsical vessel. Instructor will provide a prepped round gourd, inks, sealant, wire, needle, and embellishments. Students should bring a heat tool if you have one, bucket, old towel, plastic gloves, wire cutter, scissors, lunch and a beverage.
