Twisted Wire Tree of Life

May 14, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm MST

$95 – $105

Sold out! If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please email khayes@tohonochul.org

Gourd artists, Sue Brogdon and Randy Fuller lead this arboreal inspired gourd workshop which will produce a three-sided vessel showcasing a tiny, twisted wire copper tree set in a circular cutout. You will begin by giving your gourd a subtle finish with copper pigment powder before sealing it. The instructor will then demonstrate how to strip electrical wire for use in projects. From there you will learn how to twist and separate the wire to create your tree form. The tree can then be adorned with beads if you choose. Next learn how to lash the rim of the gourd and couch the cutout with pine needles. Finally, you will attach your tree to the circular opening. Instructors will provide a prepped gourd, inks, sealant, copper wire, pine needles, gages, beads, needles, and thread. Students should bring plastic or latex gloves, a heat tool (if you have one), an old towel, bucket, scissors, needle-nosed pliers, lunch, snacks, and a beverage.
