Meet us for a sculpture tour at the Land With No Name Sanctuary! This guided sculpture tour led by Ted Wade Springer covers approximately five acres and includes a half mile hike in high desert grassland at 4500 ft elevation. Thomasa Rivas will join the tour, adding her experience of the region as a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation (clan of the Buzzard/Rising Stars and Red Ants). James Schaub, Director of Arts & Engagement, will also be there to share his knowledge of sculpture along the way. Stories are shared in the oral tradition of the 30 plus sculptures and their makers throughout the journey.
After the tour we will gather for lunch on the outdoor patio. Kate Long Hodges will provide prickly pear juice and mesquite chocolate chip cookies. Kate will facilitate a conversation and discussion with Thomasa about her perspective concerning Tohono O’odham life – past, present, and future. Questions are welcome, as this conversation is one of many at the Land bringing cultures together to learn from one another. Thomasa and Kate have been friends for years, together they have been building this conversation recognizing that these practices build respect and appreciation for unique qualities within individuals.
