Plein Air Painting & Nature Journaling

November 15 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am MST

$100 Non-Member / $80 Member

Art and journaling in nature require observation, curiosity, and creativity.  The development of these skills allows one to observe deeply while exploring the world around you.  We will use the prompts “I notice,” “I wonder,” and “it reminds me of.”  This is a conscious, focused attention that gives the class participants a foundation for seeing, journaling, and creating an artistic part of nature around them (John Muir Laws, How to Teach Nature Journaling).  These prompts are meant to focus your observations, enhance your memory, and spark creativity.

Recommended Art Materials:

Your favorite drawing tools – pencils, color pencils, inks, along with paints and an all-purpose surface sketchbook. A more specific list will be sent to those registered for the class.

Class Capacity 16 – Register Early!

Sue Robertson – Journaling her love of nature and animals throughout her life, Sue began to learn the art of “Scientific Illustration” initiating a work study program at the Veterinary Media Department, at Colorado State University. She helped format a degree in this area and graduated after illustrating many doctorate thesis, textbooks, creating classroom visual aids and museum displays for the university community. After being exposed to plein air painting, painting became an obsession. Returning to Tucson, Sue is once again immersed in the Sonoran Desert as a Master Naturalist, Nature Journalist and Plein Air Oil Painter.

Julie Concannon – Botanist and wildlife biologist for the last 35 years in the Pacific Northwest, now situated in Tucson.  Trained as an Arizona master naturalist, she now spends time in natural areas near Tucson and has developed techniques for art and nature journaling that are fun and relaxing for everyone.
