Who hasn’t, at one time or another, bought or been given an orchid in bloom, and once it has finished blooming wondered how to keep it alive and bloom again? We will discuss and show the basics of orchid culture in the desert environment of Tucson. You can grow orchids in a home or greenhouse, but there are certain requirements to help orchids flourish in Tucson.
We will show how to repot an orchid, dive into potting materials, light, water, humidity requirements, and fertilizers necessary for your orchids to bloom. There will be ample time for questions. If you have an orchid that needs help, bring it to the class! Get expert advice from two seasoned Tucson orchid growers.

Born and raised in Kenya, Tony Knight has grown orchids in a variety of places including Kenya, Colorado and now Tucson. Moving to Tucson 10 years ago required learning how to grow orchids in a hot, dry and low humidity environment. I moved my orchid collection from Colorado into a small greenhouse in order to provide the humidity and temperature that the orchids require to flourish.

Sheri Musil bought her first orchid at a deep discount with just one flower left 35 years ago and never looked back. She’s grown orchids in Tucson indoors under lights, outdoors (most orchids won’t survive outdoors here so don’t get too excited!) and in a greenhouse. She’s always looking for better ways to grow and bloom her 100+ orchids.
