The celebration of El Día de los Muertos is a joyful occasion of remembrance, involving feasts and festivities through which death is recognized as a part of the natural process of living. Contemporary celebrations of this holiday bear both ancient traditions and a modern flair and have become a rich part of Tucson’s cultural heritage. Tohono Chul’s biennial exhibition celebrates the creative ways artists honor and enliven this deeply meaningful holiday through artistic expressions of personal and universal significance.

Sharon Holnback, owner of the Triangle L Ranch in Oracle, AZ, is the first artist to exhibit her work in Tohono Chul’s 2023-2024 Entry Gallery Project Space season. Working with glass, Sharon will transform the space into a whimsical world: “my intention is to install a mesmerizing world of color, light, and glass in Tohono Chul’s Entry Gallery. The work creates a serene environment inspired by earthly botanicals that induce a state of being. The layering of imagery and transparent objects allow each set of eyes to perceive a unique experience.”
