Join us on day 3 of City Nature Challenge for an introductory course to iNaturalist, the app and website used to document observations in the field. Please download the iNaturalist app from their website: https://www.inaturalist.org/. This introduction to the app will be followed by our BioBlitz at 9:00 am. This course is FREE for participants of Tohono Chul’s BioBlitz.
2023 City Nature Challenge
Started in 2016 as a competition between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in and around their cities by using biodiversity recording apps like iNaturalist. Are you up for a challenge? Tohono Chul is partnering with Pima County Master Naturalists and other local organizations for the 2023 City Nature Challenge.
Part 1 of the City Nature Challenge (April 28 – May 1) – Citizen scientists will find and document WILD plants, animals, fungi, lichen, etc. found in our region. Tohono Chul will host a BioBlitz on Sunday, April 30 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm to document the greatest range of wild plants and animals possible. Participants will explore and document their findings along the South Loop Trail and the Desert View Trail using the iNaturalist app. New to iNaturalist? Come earlier (8:30 am) to learn how to use the iNaturalist app.
Part 2 of the City Nature Challenge (May 2 – 7) – Citizen scientists will upload their photos and observations made during the four-day challenge to iNaturalist and they will automatically be added to the Pima County City Nature Challenge project. Help identify other citizen scientists’ observations or learn more about your own observations as identifications are confirmed and become research grade.
