GO Public Gardens Community Day

May 7, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm MST

Saturday | May 7 | 9:30am-1pm | Free

Join us for a family-friendly, free admission day to celebrate public gardens, community, and you! By offering free admission and providing family-friendly activities and entertainment we hope to encourage guests to visit our beautiful garden and learn more about the Sonoran Desert!

Free Activities Include:

  • Build a Native Bee Habitat | 10am-1pm in the Garden Pavilion When most people think of bees, the honeybee is what likely comes to mind. However, there are 1,300 species of bees in Arizona, the highest diversity of bees in the United States! Help build a house for some of these important pollinators to take home with you!
  • Paint With a Yucca Paintbrush | 10am-1pm in the Garden Pavilion Paint your own masterpiece with a paintbrush made from yucca and take your own paintbrush home! Mother’s Day is May 8th and what is a better present than a handmade card?
  • Plant a Seed | 10am-1pm in the Children’s Ramada Take home your very own seed planted in a biodegradable planter!
  • Make Insect Antenna | 10am-1pm in the Garden Pavilion With some pipe cleaners, pom poms and a little creativity, you can create your very own antennae to wear around the gardens! Mimic your favorite insect or make up your own!

Desert Players Performance | 9:30-10am in the Garden Pavilion

Prepare to be delighted by the Desert Players, a live pantomime group made up of Tohono Chul volunteers and docents! Don’t miss their original Sonoran Desert-themed play, Long Journey Home.

Mr. Nature’s Music Garden | 12pm-1pm in the Performance Garden

Join Mr. Nature in a fun and interactive playgroup designed to build and strengthen foundations for positive social interaction through song, dance, interpretive music, instrument fun, storytelling, and art!

Tucson Audubon Society | 10am-1pm in the Sonoran Seasons Garden

Vultures are nature’s cleanup crew, but they wouldn’t be able to digest what they do if it were not for their strong stomach acid! Join the Tucson Audubon Society in learning more about how the digestive system of vultures differs from other animals.

Ben’s Bells | 10am-1pm in the Sonoran Seasons Garden

Help support Ben’s Bells mission to inspire and support kindness by painting kindness coins and beads for the community!

Watershed Management | 10am-1pm in the Sonoran Seasons Garden

As an advocate for beavers in our desert creeks and rivers, Watershed Management Group will teach you how these furry creatures help our ecosystems thrive! You’ll be able to see how a beaver is able to make a dam, swim, and eat wood with our fun activity, and then you can make a paper beaver to take home with you!
