The Tucson Bonsai Society will be celebrating their 51st Art of Bonsai Exhibition April 29-30, 2023. This annual event will feature more than 100 locally-styled bonsai and local vendors with handmade pottery, trees, bonsai tools, potting soils, raffles, and a variety of other culturally related items.
This traditional horticultural discipline began in China over a thousand years ago and was brought to Japan through the culture of Buddhist Monks and refined into what is known today as BONSAI, “a tree in a pot.” In essence, this discipline cultivates and trains young trees to become sculpturally mature expressions of each species being trained under skilled hands and eyes of a sensei.
Demonstrations will illustrate the process and development of a beautifully designed bonsai tree, using both large and old raw materials. You will discover a variety of locally adapted species of trees on exhibit and for sale, such as ficus, elephant food, holly, pomegranate, crepe myrtle, citrus, juniper, cypress, boxwood, and more!
