DESCRIPTION:Are you up for a challenge? Tohono Chul is partnering with Pima County Master Naturalists and other local organizations for the 2022 City Nature Challenge. This citizen science project will document WILD flora and fauna found in our region April 29th – May 2nd. Participants are encouraged to download the free iNaturalist app on their mobile devices to record their observations during the four-day challenge. In preparation for Tohono Chul’s BioBliz on May 1st\, we are offering an introduction to iNaturalist. Join us to learn how to use the app\, tips for taking clear images of plants and wildlife\, and how to upload your observations to share with the iNaturalist community. This class is free with admission\, but space will be limited so please RSVP.

Treat yourself to a wonderful afternoon outdoors\, sipping wine\, and listening to live music. Seating is limited\, so please arrive early. The concert series is brought you in part by the Tucson Guitar Society. Please note performers are subject to change. \n  \n \nEmbodied by José Luis Puerta and Alfredo Vázquez\, the duo was formed in 2020 after a decade of collaborating and performing together in different ensemble settings\, such as guitar orchestras and quartets. They have collaborated in the premieres of pieces by renowned composers such as Sergio Assad\, Stephen Goss\, Brad Richter\, and Edwin Gueverra. Having both graduated from the University of Arizona\, they were able to study individually under the tutelage of Sergio and Odair Assad. Which provided them with a unique understanding and appreciation of the guitar ensemble. The Puerta- Vazquez Duo bring artistry and mastery into the stage by merging their academic training and artistry to bring forward an extraordinary interpretation. The duo keeps an active performance schedule throughout the southwest United States and Latin America. \nIn Spring 2022 they released their debut album Appunti under the Record Label Contrastes Records. The album is focused on guitar duos by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. \n  \n

The colorful trickster is often seen howling at the moon or involved in other wily antics. In this two-day workshop with Sandy Villegas of Luna’s Paper Designs you will learn how to make your own Mexican Folk Art coyote with papier-mâché\, and you will paint it with bright colors and designs. In the first session you will build your character with paper\, papier-mâché\, and paper clay. The following week (once your creation is dry) you will learn about Mexican Folk Art and how to design symbols and flowers for your coyote. All materials are provided.
