SUMMARY:Papier mâché Crafts with Sandy Luna: Otomi Heart
DESCRIPTION:Friday | April 12th and 19th | 10am – 1pm | Education Center – Classroom 1 \nThe forms and shapes embroidered into Otomi textiles have ancient roots\, dating back even before the rise of the Aztec Empire. According to many stories\, these shapes were preserved in prehistoric cave paintings of the Mexican Plateau\, giving artists of each generation a template from which to base their designs. “Originally created in Tenango de Doria\, Hidalgo\, Mexico\, Otomi embroidery is said to be inspired by the natural surroundings of Mexico.” It also bears hallmarks of Spanish and Aztec influences\, a reflection of the history of Mexico as a country. Sandy Luna from Luna’s Paper Designs LLC will teach you how to recreate one heart using papier mâché paste and paper clay by modeling the heart and making beautiful flowers and leaves with paper clay. You will be able to choose your Otomi design and paint it with acrylic paints to finish your piece. This is a beginner-level class. \nThis is a two-day class\, and all supplies are provided. You can bring snacks and drinks. \n$75 for members and $90 for the general public.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with William Lesch
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, April 24 | 12:00 pm | Garden Pavilion | Free with Admission\nFor the past 45 years Tucson and William Lesch have grown together. It can be argued that there is no one around Tucson that knows\, understands\, and appreciates Tucson’s beauty better than Lesch. Calling Tucson home since the mid-seventies\, the place has been a major factor in the development of Lesch’s distinctive aesthetic and skill set. An encyclopedic knowledge of photography – its history\, science\, techniques\, and processes – pushes him through every trailblazing twist in turn he creates – on purpose or by accident. \nLesch is never idle\, he is always moving\, shifting gears\, exploring new materials\, ideas\, techniques\, equipment\, technology\, and subjects. Lesch is never simply ‘taking’ a picture – he is ‘MAKING’ an image\, creating something that has an otherness to it in terms of concept and intent and an objectness to it in terms of its presence and physicality. \nJoin us as Lesch delves into his life’s work — where he’s been\, where he is now\, and where he’s going.

SUMMARY:Fused Glass Mosaics: Tree of Life
DESCRIPTION:@ \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n$65 Non-Member / $52 Member \n\nMaterials are included in the price \n\n\nThrough the ages\, the Tree of Life has represented the source of life and the force that connects all lives.  It appears in ancient artistry across the globe symbolizing oneness\, connection\, abundance\, prosperity and well-being.  Paint a Tree of Life fused glass tile to express a bit of your own creativity and life force.  Approximately 7” x 7” and ready to hang.  No experience necessary.  All materials will be provided. \nClass capacity is 16 – Register Early! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor \nDee Taube\n\n\nI have always loved art\, so while growing up I took all the art classes that were offered in school. I was drawn to art beyond being content to just appreciate it\, but during my working career making time for art seemed a luxury to be put on hold for the future. Somehow I found jewelry making and fell in love with it. It enabled me to work with color\, design\, and texture\, it was a great stress-reliever\, an outlet for my creativity\, and it nurtured my soul. When I became a member of an artists’ co-op in Colorado Springs\, I was constantly admiring the work created by the glass artists there\, and one day one of them offered to teach me how to fuse glass. I was hooked. Creating fused glass art has taught me to appreciate all art even more than I did before. It is always a learning experience. But when everything goes right\, the end result brings me joy and nurtures my soul\, as I always hope it will for those who see my art. Learning\, enjoying and creating art is an ongoing journey. Each new piece guides its own design and helps me grow as an artist. I love it! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRefund & Cancellation Policy\nNo refund will be issued less than 15 days prior to any Community Class. A $10 cancellation fee will be applied to all refunds. SUMMARY:A “Novel” Project in Silver Clay with Lyle Rayfield
DESCRIPTION:Saturday | April 27th | 9am – 12pm | Education Center Classroom 1 \nThis mini book may not land you on the best seller’s list\, but your friends will be clamoring at your door for their own personalized copy. Award-winning metal clay artist\, Lyle Rayfield\, guides participants through the process of creating and texturizing miniature book covers using silver metal clay\, embellishing them with tiny clay elements inspired by the plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert\, and filling them with colorful pages or personalized notes or pictures. When complete\, you will want to proudly wear your story for all to see. \nMicroscopic particles of pure silver are combined with an organic binder to produce the clay-like substance known as silver metal clay. When fired at high temperatures\, the binder burns off and the metal particles fuse into a solid piece of silver. No experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome. Demonstrations and instruction will cover how to properly roll\, texture\, shape\, refine\, fire\, and finish metal clay creations. You will also learn how a simple butane torch can fire your pieces\, so that you can continue to create beautiful jewelry at home without kin\, All materials are supplied; magnifying lenses (if needed) and an apron are optional. \n$120 members and $145 general public
