DESCRIPTION:With each “Call for Entries – Call to Artists” sent out\, Tohono Chul’s Exhibits Department receives numerous inquiries wondering “What exactly are they looking for?” \nTohono Chul’s own Director of Education and Exhibitions\, James Schaub will address this question and others through a discussion that will examine the myriad things artists must consider when creating exhibition proposals\, submitting their work for thematic exhibitions\, and presenting their work as professional artists. \nThe discussion will start with a 45 minute power point presentation followed by a question and answer session that is likely to generate a lively and productive conversation. \nThis event is FREE and artists of all levels are invited to attend. For easy access – please park in the Parking Lot off of Northern Avenue (7211 N. Northern Avenue). Please RSVP as space will be limited. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Sundays in the Garden Concert Fall Concert Series featuring the Folkloric Music from Latin America and the Caribbean of Grupo Riken. The concert is free with admission and free for members as one of the many amazing membership benefits. \nBe sure to visit the cash bar for beer and wine\, prickly pear lemonade\, and our famous prickly pear margaritas. Treat yourself to a wonderful afternoon outdoors\, sipping wine\, and listening to live music. Seating is limited\, so please arrive early. The concert series is brought you in part by the Tucson Guitar Society. \nMasks are required for this event because social distancing is not possible in the Performance Garden.\n  \n \n  \nAbout Grupo Riken\nGrupo Riken has been performing in the Tucson area since 2009. They specialize in folkloric music from the Caribbean and Latin-America. Genres like the Cuban bolero\, Puerto Rican jibaro music and\, llanero\, Latin jazz\, salsa\, and bossa nova. The group’s unique sounds come from folk instruments like the Puerto Rican cuatro\, guitar\, Peruvian Cajon\, Afro-Caribbean percussion bongos\, and congas\, accompanied by the guitar. The name Riken is a derivation from the name given by the indigenous Tainos in Puerto Rico\, which called the island Boriken.  Grupo Riken has participated in local music festivals such as the Tucson Meet Yourself and has participated in  Tohono Chul’s Sunday in the Garden concert series since 2015\, as well as many collaborations with the University of Arizona and the Tucson Guitar Society. They released their first CD titled De Aqui pa’ allá in 2016. In Spring 2019 they won second place at the SAACA Folk Music Festival in Oro Valley. \nJosé Luis Puerta (guitar) native of Puerto Rico\, has been an active Board Member of the Tucson Guitar Society since 2009. He is the Director of Education and the conductor for the Tucson Guitar Society Orchestra since 2013. As a soloist and ensemble artist\, he has performed in Canada\, Spain\, United States\, Mexico\, and Puerto Rico. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Music at the Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona. And collaborate with multiple chamber music ensembles. \nAlexis Rivera (cuatro) native of Puerto Rico\, has been performing with different instruments\, such as the bass\, drums\, guitar\, and cuatro\, with different groups throughout the Tucson area. Most recently with the LFP Project\, Tradiciones\, and Grupo Riken. He also records\, composes\, and edits some of the music for the group. \nDavid Pérez (percussion) originally from Mexico City\, studied congas with a Cuban teacher which gave him a deep understanding of Caribbean music such as the salsa\, boleros\, guaguancó. He has performed with multiple groups and is an active member of Vox Urbana. Vox Urbana is a seven-piece band that combines Latin-based sounds with stories and experiences that occur in the Arizona/Sonora border region. The bi-national band is based in Tucson\, Arizona\, and has been creatively narrating stories of the border community since 2010. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Tohono Chul Family!\n  \nThis 2-hour tour was designed specifically for new members like you as a way to welcome you to the Tohono Chul Family and to personalize your experience with the gardens. \n  \n\n\nAll participants and attendees are required to wear a mask during the tour (outside and inside). If you’re not able to wear a mask\, please consider joining us at a later date.\n\n\nBring sunscreen\, a hat\, closed-toed shoes\, water\, and if it’s a chilly morning\, wear warm clothes.\n\n\nTours begin at 9am so please try to arrive at 8:45am at The Overlook in Tohono Chul.\n\n\n  \nPlease only reserve spots for the number of guests\nwho are included with your membership.\nBe sure to click the green button to confirm the reservation after entering your guest count and information below.
