Bring your own river rock\, preferably 8-10 inches in a smooth\, round-ish shape. David will guide you through the process of using mesh backing and porcelain tiles for the mosaic\, demonstrating how to transfer it onto the rock using thinset. After the thinset cures\, a grout kit will be provided for the finishing touch. This hands-on experience not only results in a beautiful rock mosaic but also equips you with valuable techniques to apply when creating your own mosaic mural at home. If you encounter difficulty sourcing a suitable rock\, let us know 1 week in advance\, and we can provide one for you. The specific theme for this class is Desert Senna Blooms. The tools and techniques shared in this workshop are beneficial to creating beautiful blooms. After we explore the breakdown of senna blooms\, we will learn how to use composition to create a final piece of art. \nMain Concepts: \n\nContour drawing\nBreaking down subjects into basic shapes\nVariety of Pen Strokes\nLine Control/Hand & Eye Coordination\n\nPlease provide your own art materials. \nList of recommended art materials: \n\n2H or 4H graphite pencil or color pencil with eraser\nEraser (Streader)\, kneaded eraser\nSmall ruler\nPens (Copic Multi-liners or Micron) 0.1\, 0.3\, & 0.5\n9” x 12” Paper (Illustration board\, mixed media paper or sketchbook)\n8.5” x 11” plain printer paper or sketchbook for warmups\nPhotos of Desert Senna (a few reference photos will be sent out before class begins)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor \nAdela Antoinette\n\n\nAdela Antoinette (She/Her) is a published illustrator\, designer and makeup artist. As a southwest born desert dweller\, Antoinette’s work primarily centers on Sonoran Desert flora but fluctuates within botany through visiting different regions across the states. She specializes in various traditional mediums including her favorite\, watercolor in which she has taught in workshops and classes at the Denali Education Center and The Drawing Studio. Her work has been displayed in various galleries in Arizona\, Alaska\, and California. Antoinette studied illustration and design at the University of Arizona\, receiving her degree in Visual Communication. She is a Tucson\, Arizona artist currently living in New York City. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRefund & Cancellation Policy\nNo refund will be issued less than 15 days prior to any Community Class. SUMMARY:Exploring Nature Through Watercolor (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays | Six session class | March 28th – May 2nd  | 1 – 4 pm  \nEducation Center Classroom 1 | $275 members and $340 general public \nDeepen your appreciation for nature by learning to capture it in watercolor! This watercolor workshop is great for beginners to advanced painters and will cover composition\, representation of form\, color mixing\, and painting from photos and nature. Students will explore gesture sketching and nature journaling and will complete several small paintings throughout the four sessions. Taught by Katie Iverson\, an artist\, photographer\, marine biologist\, and Tohono Chul Docent\, who will have plenty of insights about representing the flora and fauna of our beautiful Sonoran Desert region! Katie will provide supplies for the first class as well as a list of recommended materials for the remaining classes. (Students are welcome to bring any materials they have to the first class\, but are discouraged from purchasing new materials until AFTER the first class.) New bird species are being described every year\, even in the 2020s. This class explores some of these remarkable discoveries\, including such birds as the Inti Tanager\, Long-whiskered Owlet\, Araripe Manakin\, and many others. Join us for a look at these newly-discovered birds. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor \nJeff Babson\n\n\nJeff Babson is an all-around naturalist\, with particular interest in birds\, butterflies\, moths\, beetles and dragonflies.  \nOwner of Sky Island Tours\, an environmental education and eco-tour company\, Jeff has led birding tours for the Tucson Botanical Gardens\, Pima County Department of Natural Resources\, Parks and Recreation\, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum\, and several birding festivals in southern Arizona (Wings over Willcox\, Southwest Wings\, Tucson Birding and Nature Festival).
