The colorful trickster is often seen howling at the moon or involved in other wily antics. In this two-day workshop with Sandy Villegas of Luna’s Paper Designs you will learn how to make your own Mexican Folk Art coyote with papier-mâché\, and you will paint it with bright colors and designs. In the first session you will build your character with paper\, papier-mâché\, and paper clay. The following week (once your creation is dry) you will learn about Mexican Folk Art and how to design symbols and flowers for your coyote. All materials are provided.

Treat yourself to a wonderful afternoon outdoors\, sipping wine\, and listening to live music. Seating is limited\, so please arrive early. The concert series is brought you in part by the Tucson Guitar Society. Please note performers are subject to change. \n\n  \n \n  \nAbout Michael Anthony Nigro\nAs an international concert artist Mr. Nigro has given concerts and master classes for numerous universities\, performing arts centers\, church concert series\, guitar societies\, libraries\, and museums\, including concert tours in Argentina\, Chile\, France\, Bulgaria\, Greece\, and the Philippines. \nAs a recording artist\, his discography includes a total of 6 CD’s: 3 solo recordings\, 2 recordings with guitar and flute\, and most recently Tucson Guitar Quartet’s debut CD\, Latin American\nSoundscapes. \nFor 12 years\, Michael was an Assistant Professor of Music at Vanguard University where he established a thorough and comprehensive guitar program that graduated many notable students. \nPresently\, Michael works for the Academy of Math in Science in Tucson\, AZ where he teaches classical guitar classes to elementary and middle school students. He is also on the faculty at the\nBangalore Conservatory in India. \nMichael holds a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance from California State University\, Fullerton and a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance from Indiana University\, Bloomington. His principle teachers were David Grimes and Ernesto Bitetti. He is an active member of the guitar community; he is co-founder of the Long Beach Classical Guitar Society\, co-author of “The Essential Classical Guitar Scale Book\,” published on Mel Bay\, and reviewer of new music publications for Soundboard. \n

SUMMARY:Desert Garden Pendants
DESCRIPTION:Learn to create beautiful garden-inspired pendants in silver metal clay\, with the help of Lyle Rayfield and a variety of Sonoran Desert plants. You’ll learn how to make surface impressions of a few native species\, including penstemon\, triangle-leaf bursage and creosote\, along with some non-native desert plants like blue lupine and the Mexican sunflower. Choose an impression for your pendant and showcase it within a cutout or freeform shape. The pendants will be kiln fired in class\, but Lyle will show you a simple method to use at home\, no kiln required. Microscopic particles of pure silver are combined with an organic binder to produce the clay-like substance known as silver metal clay. When fired at high temperatures\, the binder burns off and the metal particles fuse into a solid piece of silver. No experience is necessary\, and all skill levels are welcome. Demonstrations and instruction will cover how to properly roll\, texture\, shape\, refine\, fire\, and finish metal clay creations. All materials are supplied; magnifying lenses (if needed) and an apron are optional.
