SUMMARY:Alcohol Inks with a Wire-wrapped Rock Rim
DESCRIPTION:Adirondack alcohol inks (available in over 50 colors)\, when mixed\, blended or washed together create a plethora of vibrant colors. Gourd artist Sue Brogdon demonstrates multiple ways to utilize these bold colors – dripping\, outlining\, stamping\, blended and even used in combination with other products. Students select the technique and hues to color their own gourd before learning how to wire wrap a rock which will be lashed onto a pine needle\, pygmy date palm or suede rim treatment. Beads will be available to conceal the drill holes. All materials provided – cleaned and prepped round gourd; alcohol inks; polyurethane finish; dyed pine needles\, pygmy date palm and suede; wire for wrapping; agates\, jasper\, turquoise; wire for lashing; and\, beads\, if desired. Students should bring plastic or latex gloves\, a wire cutter\, flat nosed pliers\, bucket\, an old towel and lunch.

SUMMARY:Seeing The Invisible
DESCRIPTION:Artists:\nSigalit Landau\nJakob Kudsk Steensen\nRefik Anadol\nJohn Gerrard\nOri Gersht\nMahammad Kazem\nSarah Meyohas\nMore artists to be announced!\n  \nThe most ambitious and expansive exhibition to date of contemporary artworks created with augmented reality (AR) technology will premiere at TBG in September 2021 as one of 12 participating gardens across seven countries. Seeing the Invisible features new works by more than a dozen international artists.\n \n  \nThe first exhibition of its kind to be developed in collaboration between botanical gardens and arts institutions from around the world\, Seeing the Invisible is initiated by the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens and Outset Contemporary Art Fund and will open simultaneously across the Denver Botanic Gardens\, Eden Project (Cornwall\, UK)\, Jerusalem Botanical Gardens\, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (Cape Town\, South Africa)\, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Sarasota\, Florida)\, Massachusetts Horticultural Society (Dover\, MA)\, Royal Botanical Gardens (Ontario)\, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh\, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria (Melbourne\, Australia)\, San Diego Botanic Garden\, and Tucson Botanical Gardens. \n  \n  \nSeeing the Invisible will place the same group of artworks across analogous locations in twelve outdoor settings situated in different biomes all around the world\, creating parallels and contrasts between them. For example\, the same work might be staged within a group of tall Saguaro cacti in Tucson and among a lush forest of giant redwoods in Edinburgh. Seeing the Invisible represents an environmentally friendly model when compared to the carbon footprint of traditional outdoor exhibitions which require artworks to be shipped and plant life to be disrupted\, and many of the works created for the exhibition will address related themes around nature\, environment\, sustainability\, and the intersection of the physical world with the digital one. \n  \nSeeing the Invisible will be accessible via smartphone and tablet through the unique Seeing the Invisible app\, which will be available for iPhone and Android in the App Store and Google Play. \n  \nThis project has been made possible in partnership with The Jerusalem Foundation and supported by The Clore Israel Foundation and Nathan Cummings Foundation.

SUMMARY:Mosaic Dragonfly Tile
DESCRIPTION:We tend to think of dragonflies as a pond insect\, always around water. They may need water to reproduce\, but amazingly we’ll see them miles from water\, in the middle of the desert\, or zipping around our gardens at home. This 6”x6” mosaic dragonfly project will help you capture all their flash and color\, but with tile! David Jarvinen of Mosaic Guys walks you through the steps as you learn how to shape and fit your tiles with wheeled nippers. Choose from a wide variety of glass tiles to complete the pre-printed design and take home the grout kit to complete your project (takes 24 hours to cure). All materials provided; there are no formal breaks\, so please bring lunch/snacks/drinks.

SUMMARY:Warty Gourd Vessels
DESCRIPTION:“Warties” are one of the most bizarre varieties of hard-shelled gourd grown today\, and they are as fun as they look! During this summertime workshop with gourd artist\, Sue Brogdon\, participants color both a small and a medium-sized gourd with ink dyes; select fiber\, such as pine needles\, philodendron sheaths or dragon’s tongue\, for the rim treatment; and finish it off with botanical enhancements from the desert and the coast. Instructor provides two prepped gourds\, ink\, sealant\, botanicals\, needle and lashing material. Students should bring an apron\, plastic or latex gloves\, an old towel\, bucket\, scissors\, heat tool (if you have one)\, and a brown bag lunch.

SUMMARY:Free Estate Planning Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Past\, Present and Future: Planning in Times of Uncertainty\nPresented by Elizabeth Noble Rollings Friman\, Attorney \nTuesday\, September 21\, 2021\, at 4:00 pm \nPorter Hall Gallery\, Tucson Botanical Gardens \n  \nIn this 60-minute workshop\, Elizabeth Friman will explain the importance of estate planning and how to begin. She will describe how you can ensure your future legacy accurately reflects your wishes for family and community. \nRegister for free at www.tucsonbotanical.org/class/estate-planning \n  \n \nPhoto by Tucson photographer Martha Lochert. \n\n“Life can change quickly and the pandemic has reminded all of us that it is good to be prepared for the unexpected.” \nSince its beginnings 40 years ago\, bequests and other estate gifts have provided vital support for the Tucson Botanical Gardens. In this way\, our donors’ legacies appear in every program – horticulture\, Butterfly Magic\, youth education\, exhibitions\, expansion\, and so much more. \nThose who notify the Gardens of their intent to include the Tucson Botanical Gardens in wills or estate plans are recognized with membership in the Penstemon Society \n  \n  \n  \nElizabeth Noble Rollings Friman is a Principal of Fleming & Curti\, a Tucson law firm that specializes in Elder Law. Her practice focuses on trust administration\, probate\, guardianship\, conservatorship\, and estate planning. Elizabeth is also a member and incoming Chair of the Arizona State Bar Probate & Trust Executive Council. In addition to other professional leadership roles\, she serves on the boards of several local nonprofit organizations.
