SUMMARY:Mexican Folk Art Papier Mache Skulls
DESCRIPTION:Skulls are popular symbols of Dia de Muertos in Mexican culture. The artist Alfonso Castillo Orta from Izúcar de Matamoros Puebla\, was the first one to create a clay skull\, decorated with Monarch butterflies and caterpillars representing the circle of life. Sandy Villegas of Luna’s Paper Designs will lead you through a papier mache skull decorating workshop. You will learn the meanings of Mexican folk-art symbols like butterflies\, flowers\, and bright colors. Using the art of Alfonso Castillo Orta as your inspiration\, you will decorate your own pre-made papier mache skull and Monarch butterflies to create your very own skull for Dia de Muertos. This workshop will be held in Classroom 1 in the Education Center\, next to the Children’s Museum.
