SUMMARY:Reception with the Artists
DESCRIPTION:Reception with the Artists\nThursday\, May 18\, 2023\n5:30 – 8 pm | Exhibit House\nReception is FREE and Open to the Public\nTHE EXOTIC SUBLIME: LAND AND SKY \nThe Exotic Sublime examines the romantic Sonoran landscape as viewed from near and far – magnified or mourned from arm’s length\, from distant vistas\, from out of this world. We are witness – in macrocosm or microcosm – to the effects of time in slow dissolution or methodical accretion; cautionary tales to join what this place used to be with what this place will become. The voice in between\, the creative and artistic resolve\, is a current toward the odd and wondrous grandeur of The Exotic Sublime. \nwith \nPERMANENT COLLECTION | NEW PERSPECTIVES\nselections from the Roy J. Kurtz Collection of American Indian Art\ncurated by Phil Davis | Tohono Chul Exhibits Dept. Volunteer \nTohono Chul’s Permanent Collection started in 1986 with a donation of sixty-five objects from the Estate of Mrs. Robert Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was the mother of Dick Wilson\, Tohono Chul’s founder. Today\, with the recent gift of The  Roy J. Kurtz Collection of American Indian Art\, the Permanent Collection has grown to over 1000 objects. This installment of Permanent Collection | New Perspectives features Apache\, Akimel O’Odham\, and Tohono O’odham baskets selected by Guest Curator and Tohono Chul Exhibits Dept. Volunteer\, Phil Davis. \nand \n10 x 10: A FUNDRAISER\n10 x 10 is an invitational exhibition with the many artists who make Tohono Chul‘s galleries such a unique experience. 10 x 10 features a wide range of sculpture and paintings\, prints\, photographs\, and mixed-media works no larger than 10 inches in any dimension. Each artwork is priced at $100 and can be taken home immediately upon purchase. With over 175 pieces by 39 artists\, artwork on display will change periodically over the course of the exhibition\, with new works constantly being revealed. The curators will be available Monday – Friday to show additional works that are waiting in the wings. \nGuests can enjoy a musical performance by the Tune Monkeys in the Spanish Colonial Courtyard and a cash bar from The Garden Bistro!
